FAILUREMAG.COM PRIVACY POLICY
Failuremag.com understands and respects your right to the privacy of the personal information you provide on this site. As such, we would like you to know how we use the personal information you disclose to us. All information is handled with the utmost discretion.

Collection of Personal Information
The only personal information collected through our Web site is information that is submitted to us voluntarily and knowingly by site visitors. When you simply browse our site, no personal information is collected by failuremag.com.

Some functions and services offered on our site require that you provide certain personal information. For example, when you order a product, enter a contest or sweepstakes, or register for a mailing list, we may need your postal or e-mail address.

Policy for Adult Users
Information voluntarily submitted by users may be used for marketing and promotional purposes by failuremag.com. Unless you designate otherwise or we state otherwise in this policy or at the time the information is collected, information about individuals is not shared with any outside companies, although data may be aggregated to provide a general reader profile to advertisers. When we do present aggregated information to advertisers or potential advertisers, no one will be able to identify you or contact you.

Policy for Minors
Children should always ask parents or guardians for permission before providing any personal information online. No information should be submitted or posted to this site by any minor [a user under 18 years of age], without the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not provide any personally identifying information about minors, regardless of its source, to any third party for any purpose whatsoever. Minors are not allowed to participate in site contests.

Opt-In E-mail/Newsletters
If you sign up ("Opt-In") to receive a failuremag.com newsletter by e-mail, you will receive periodic announcements from failuremag.com. We collect subscribers’ e-mail addresses in order to distribute newsletters/announcements and do not share them with any outside companies. Users can choose to unsubscribe ("Opt-Out") from failuremag.com newsletters at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions found at the bottom of each e-mail or by sending an e-mail with "Unsubscribe" in the Subject box to: enewsletter@failuremag.com.
Opting Out
Receiving e-mail messages from failuremag.com is optional. You may choose not to receive e-mail, even after granting prior permission, or you may wish to correct information you previously provided. If you do not wish to receive e-mail or wish to correct information you previously provided to failuremag.com please send an e-mail message to: enewsletter@failuremag.com.

Failuremag.com will use reasonable efforts to delete records or alter records in our database when we receive requests to do so. However, because of possible retention of a residual copy in a system backup file, we cannot guarantee deletion or alteration in every instance.

Public Forums
Whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online in message boards or similar posting areas, the information can be reviewed and collected by anyone. Therefore, you should not post any information that you do not want to be made available to the general public. Failuremag.com is not responsible for unsolicited communications that arise from your postings on this site.

Letters to the Editor
Any information provided by a user along with or in connection with a letter to the editor will only be used to verify the identity of the writer (should we need to) in connection with the publication of a letter. We do not retain this information, nor do we sell, trade, or disclose it to any third parties. Failuremag.com may or may not contact you prior to posting a letter to the editor on the site.

Letters (e-mails) to our Authors
Letters e-mailed to our authors are sent directly to the author’s e-mail address and copied to the editor-in-chief of failuremag.com. Should the editor of Failure magazine wish to publish a letter addressed to an author, an editor will contact you directly to request your permission. Again, failuremag.com does not retain this information, nor do we sell, trade, or disclose it to any third parties. By contract, all of failuremag.com’s freelance writers are prohibited from retaining, selling, trading or disclosing your contact information to any third parties.

Purchase of products from the Failure Store
Failure magazine operates an online store at failuremag.com. In the course of processing orders, we will necessarily collect information from you (including your credit card number and contact information), for the purpose of filling customer orders. We do not share any of this information with any other companies, individuals, or third party firms except those directly involved in helping us complete the transaction and deliver the order. Credit card numbers submitted through our Web site are used for payment purposes only, and not for marketing purposes.
Promotion
From time to time, failuremag.com may sponsor sweepstakes, contests, free product samples from advertisers, or other events that require the collection, processing and storage of individual contact and demographic information to be used for the promotion. Failuremag.com may also co-sponsor these events with other companies, in which case the user’s individual contact and demographic information may, in some cases, be shared with the participating sponsor(s). Failuremag.com requests that co-sponsors of any events uphold the privacy of registrants’ information. In cases where contact and demographic information is not shared with co-sponsors, the information may be shared with an outside fulfillment house whose sole purpose is to deliver product samples or other materials. Otherwise, a registrant’s personal contact and demographic information will not be released by failuremag.com to any third-party or non-participating organization.

Opinion Polls
Opinion polls on our Web site are anonymous. We do not correlate votes submitted via such polls with names or e-mail addresses.

Use of IP Addresses
An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web. Web servers automatically identify your computer by its IP address. When a user requests pages from our site, our servers log the user’s IP address. The addresses are collected for the purposes of system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. In other words, a user’s session will be logged, but the identity of the guest remains anonymous.

Use of Cookies
On the Web, cookies are pieces of information that a Web site transfers to an individual’s hard drive for record-keeping purposes. Cookies enhance the Web surfing experience by saving your passwords, preferences, purchases, etc., while you’re at a site. The use of cookies is standard–you’ll find them at most major Web sites.
By demonstrating how and when users navigate the site, cookies help us see which areas are popular and which are, uh, failures. Some of the improvements and updates to the site are based on such data as total number of visitors and pages viewed. This information is most easily tracked with cookies.

A cookie lets the computers "remember" you, which allows us to speed up your experience on our site. In many cases, this saves you the trouble of entering the same information on multiple occasions. We never use cookies to retrieve information from your computer that was not originally sent in a cookie.

Companies which place advertising on our site also have the ability to assign their cookies to you in a process that failuremag.com does not control. However, cookies cannot be used to identify individuals, only machines, so those advertisers will not know who you are. Also, any advertising network that serves ads onto our site may use cookies. We do not control these cookies and these networks are not subject to our policies. The use of advertising cookies sent by third-party servers is a standard procedure in the Internet industry.

Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. However, it is possible that certain areas of the site (such as the Failure Store and contest areas) will not function properly if you do so.

Other disclosure of personal information
Failuremag.com will not use or disclose your personal information without your consent except (i) as described in this Privacy Policy, or (ii) as required by law. Again, this policy does not protect information you post on our online message board or on any other public forum within our site.

Other sites
Failuremag.com contains many links to other sites on the Web. We cannot control and are in no way responsible for the privacy practices or content of other Web sites.

Acceptance of Privacy Policy Terms and Conditions
By using this site, you signify your agreement to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use this site.

Failuremag.com (owned and/or operated by Failure Magazine LLC) reserves the right, in our sole discretion, to change, modify, or otherwise update this Policy at any time. Such changes, modifications, updates or additions shall be effective immediately upon notice, which may be given by posting on this site. Use of failuremag.com after such notice shall be deemed to constitute your acceptance of such changes, modifications, updates or additions.

Additional questions?
If you have any additional questions or concerns pertaining to the privacy of information collected on this site, please send them to info@failuremag.com.
